Importing Egyptian mango is a two-country project. The Egyptian exporter must complete the export-side commercial, customs and plant-health process, while the importer must satisfy the destination’s import, food-safety, quarantine, labelling and customs rules. Start with the destination requirements before negotiating fruit and freight.

Step 1: define the market requirement

Confirm the HS code with your customs broker. Write the destination country, sales channel, arrival week, quantity, varieties, count, carton, label language, pallet standard, maturity on arrival and residue or certification requirements. Ask the destination plant-health authority whether an import permit, pest treatment, orchard or packing-house registration, pre-clearance or additional declaration is required.

Step 2: pre-qualify the Egyptian supply chain

Check the contracting entity, exporter registration, packing-house capability and traceability. Obtain the supplier’s legal name, address, bank beneficiary, commercial records and relevant certificates. Ask how orchards, harvest lots, treatments and cartons are identified. A verified supplier should be willing to provide evidence and accept a written inspection protocol.

Step 3: approve product and packaging

Approve a current-season sample where practical. Convert preferences into measurable tolerances: size distribution, net weight, firmness or maturity, external defects, internal condition and carton performance. Confirm whether branding, barcodes and local-language labels must be printed before packing.

Step 4: agree the contract and Incoterm

State who pays and controls inland transport, export clearance, main freight, insurance, destination clearance and duties. Include the approved specification, inspection method, document list, shipment window, payment milestones and remedy for non-conformance. The Incoterm allocates tasks and risk; it does not replace a quality contract.

Step 5: book the cold-chain route

Select air or sea based on volume, shelf-life objective and economics. Confirm pack-to-departure time, pre-cooling, set point, ventilation, equipment availability, cut-off and transit assumptions. Build contingency for inspection and port changes. Do not book a schedule that requires over-mature fruit to survive an unrealistic delay.

Step 6: prepare Egyptian export documents

The exact file depends on the shipment, but usually includes a commercial invoice, packing list, transport document or booking data, customs declaration through Egypt’s Nafeza workflow and origin evidence where required. Fresh plant products can require Agricultural Quarantine inspection and a phytosanitary certificate. The exporter and customs broker should verify current Egyptian requirements for the HS code.

Step 7: inspect the production lot

Use random cartons across pallets or packing times, not hand-selected fruit. Record identity, quantity, size distribution, weight, appearance, defects, maturity indicators, pulp condition, packaging, labels and loading temperature. Photograph seal numbers and the loaded condition. Agree in advance who can release or hold the shipment.

Step 8: send a document draft before departure

The importer and broker should review draft invoice, packing list, phytosanitary certificate details, origin document, bill of lading or air waybill instructions and any destination certificates. Names, weights, package counts, marks, botanical name where required and origin must match. Corrections are easier before final issue.

Step 9: prepare arrival control

Arrange customs and plant-health handling before arrival. Record container or cargo temperature and inspect representative cartons immediately. Separate transit damage, maturity issues and specification defects. Preserve photos, logger data and official reports if a claim may arise.

Minimum inquiry brief

  • Destination and discharge airport or port
  • Required arrival week
  • Variety and acceptable alternatives
  • Quantity and expected repeat programme
  • Size, carton, label and pallet format
  • Required certificates and residue standard
  • Preferred Incoterm and transport mode

Use the Egyptian mango calendar to select a realistic window, then send a complete requirement through ExpertExporter.

This is operational guidance, not a destination customs decision. Obtain written confirmation from your importer, customs broker and competent authorities for the exact HS code and shipment date.
